Don't do this

  • Don't blast the whole staff or athletic department. Write to the specific coach by name.
  • Don't write your life story or list unrelated activities. They want lacrosse, grades, and how to see you play.
  • Don't add personal trivia like snack flavors, headband color, or what you wore.
  • Don't give a play-by-play of a game.
  • Don't promise to email before and after every event, or send weekly updates. One clear email, then update only when something real changes.
  • Don't use a gimmicky or vague subject. Lead with name, grad year, club, position, number.
  • Don't bury the basics. Position, grad year, and contact info go near the top.
  • Don't let it scroll. If it's longer than the screen, cut it.
